Bait crawfish

Crawfish is a member of the Astacoidea and Parastacoidea families. Crawfish (also called crayfish) resemble to small lobsters and live in freshwater rivers and springs. Crawfish are many times used as bait for catfish and muskie, but are very good to eat.
Crawfish are eaten all over the world, and like all crustaceans only a portion of the body is edible. Many people love eating crawfish, but it`s a little difficult to catch because you need some good crawfish bait. Crawfish should be boiled before eating, and there are some things you should be carefull when cooking crawfish. If the tail meat is mushy, then the crawfish is not edible. You should cook a crawfish only if it`s dead of a small period of time and kept in a cold place.
For this reason many people preffer to catch crawfish using traps and bait crawfish.

How to bait crawfish?

First of all you need a good trap (you can get a good one from Bass pro) and good crawfish bait.
Crawfish are known as picky eaters, there is absolutely no question about that! So you must choose carefully the bait you intend to use.
For bait , you can use:
- canned cat food
- fresh caught fish
- pork bacon
- fresh chicken parts
- beef
- old cheese
- rotten grain
- soybean cake
- dead fish (sardines in a can)
- dog food

One of the best ways to use canned bait is to make some holes in the can and put the can inside the trap.
